A poster promoting a performance by Tony Lee, the ´XXX-Rated Hypnotist´. Tony Lee used hypnotism to place members of the audience into embarrassing sexually suggestive situations. Tony Lee’s audience typically consisted of university student and young couples. This poster was to be displayed in poster cases around the city. The design problem facing this project was the blending of two separate ideas, hypnotism and sex, without lapsing into tackiness or vulgarity. The solution was to use a provocative woman reminiscent of 40’s pulp suspense magazines. Her direct gaze engaged the audience and provided a thrilling yet implied sexuality.
